Simultanea e Astrazioni collects 16 pieces composed between 2017 and 2020 by Simone Sims Longo. The origin of the work lies in a fascination with the sounds that surround us, which unknowingly create complex patterns, becoming a deeply personal acoustic experience. The intent of the composition stems from a desire to create and control evolving organic textures that combine natural and synthetic sounds.

The musical development is rooted in the idea that the encoding and interpretation of sound—when disconnected from its source and reworked—connect directly to our personal backgrounds. This process highlights an interpretation of the individual sound event, opening creative possibilities. The organization of sound in these pieces is achieved by balancing sample loops of varying lengths, recalled within time windows, and fostering the organic development of sound, thus generating fluid or, at times, abrupt changes.

The pieces are not explicitly tied to traditional electroacoustic sound research; instead, the organization of sound is strongly influenced by the rhythmic elements of club music and the contemporary expressions of electronic sound, which the artist interprets through a personal lens. Simultanea e Astrazioni occasionally plays with sound perception, organizing fragments to create brief, abstract episodes.

The compositional techniques used are diverse: digital sound synthesis, acoustic instrument samples, field recordings, and spectral processing. The approach is rooted in computer music, where the computer functions as a musical instrument—a hub for sound processing and a convergence point for all external inputs.

The cover features a photograph by Vittorio Mortarotti, Untitled from the series Una linea (2019–2020).

The work is also presented live as an audiovisual performance, where video is used to expand the sonic possibilities and integrates with the audio through a visual music correlation, creating a new sensory dimension. Some pieces are accompanied by fixed-media visual representations, adopting a video art dimension.

Massimo Busti  – Blow Up – luglio 2021
